Beyond Good & Evil 2 Survives Ubisoft's 2026 Cancellation Wave: Still in Active Development After 17 Years
Perhaps one of the most shocking reveals during the Ubisoft cancellation wave yesterday was the fact that Beyond Good & Evil 2 has continued to survive. As the current record holder for longest-in-development title ever, with an official reveal date of May 30, 2008, not only did the game survive yesterday’s Ubisoft purge, but it was even listed as a game title being worked on by one of the new creative houses.
While the current iteration of Beyond Good & Evil 2 has not been in development for over 17 years, just only since 2017, over 8 years of development has still been long enough for most people to assume we were never getting this game. With the game confirmed to still be in active development following yesterday’s news of six Ubisoft cancellations, it is a wonder when we will ever see the title.

It has been awhile since Beyond Good & Evil 2 had been in the news. The game has been quietly under the radar ever since 2023, when Ubisoft Montpellier, the studio working on the title, was investigated “over an unprecedented number of developers experiencing burnout and going on sick leave.” It is estimated that so far Beyond Good & Evil 2 has cost Ubisoft over $500 million in development costs when that number becomes too large for Ubisoft to continue supporting the title is anyone's guess.
Do you think we will ever get a release of Beyond Good & Evil 2? If so, what year do you think the game will finally release? Hop into TheGamerzTheory Discord and let us know.
