Steam Deck 2 Release Date Rumored for 2028: Insider Claims Valve Targeting Next-Gen Handheld
Valve has revealed a suite of Steam devices that have entered the gaming landscape, including the Steam Machine, Steam VR, and the Steam Controller. However, one device that has already proven especially successful for Valve is the Steam Deck - a powerful, portable handheld that has already seen one major revision with the OLED screen upgrade. Now, rumors are beginning to circulate about the device’s successor.
According to one insider, Valve may be targeting 2028 for the release of the Steam Deck 2, or whatever the company ultimately decides to call it. The original Steam Deck was first released in 2022 and was quickly followed by the OLED model in 2023. Valve has since ended production of the original Steam Deck model, leading some to believe the company is laying the groundwork for its next iteration in the handheld market.

This information comes from KeplerL2 in a post on NeoGAF, responding to a question about when a potential Steam Deck 2 might arrive:
When do you think a potential Deck 2 can be expected? 2029 or later when Valve finds an SOC like Aerith discarded by a big tech company, with a probable 10 million units minimum guarantee?
KelerL2 - They were targeting 2028 AFAIK, but the whole RAM/NAND situation could delay it. Also since they don't have a semi-custom SoC, unlike the PS6/Xbox if it gets delayed it could end up with better specs.”
Valve can certainly take all the time they need, but they may have to take more than expected due to the current RAM shortages affecting many companies across the industry. Would you like a Steam Deck 2? Let us know in the comments.
