Ubisoft Cancels Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake, Closes 2 Studios, Confirms Layoffs in Major Restructuring
Ubisoft has made sweeping changes today, with the closure of two studios and the cancellation of six projects, including Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake (which was supposedly ready to release), and has confirmed further layoffs in a total company restructuring. Additionally, seven projects, including an unnamed one set for a 2026 release this quarter (most likely the Black Flag Remake), have been delayed. As part of the restructure, Ubisoft will divide its studios into five creative houses.
Five Houses to Rule Them All?
According to a press release given to TheGamerzTheory by Ubisoft, the Five Creative Houses will be built on a decentralized model. Each creative house will be organized around a distinct creative genre, and each house will be responsible for fully owning the gamer relationship. The five houses breakdown as such:
-
CH1 (Vantage Studios), focused on scaling and extending Ubisoft’s largest and established franchises to turn them into annual billionaire brands;
-
Brands: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Rainbow Six
-
CH2 dedicated to competitive and cooperative shooter experiences;
-
Brands including The Division, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell
-
CH3 designed to operate a roster of select, sharp Live experiences;
-
Brands including For Honor, The Crew, Riders Republic, Brawlhalla, Skull & Bones
-
CH4 dedicated to immersive fantasy worlds and narrative-driven universes;
-
Brands including Anno, Might & Magic, Rayman, Prince of Persia, Beyond Good & Evil
-
CH5 focused on reclaiming position in casual and family-friendly games.
-
Brands including Just Dance, Idle Miner Tycoon, Ketchapp, Hungry Shark, Invincible: Guarding the Globe, Uno, Hasbro

Despite the delays and cancellations, Ubisoft did confirm 4 new IPs are currently in development, including March of Giants. With Ubisoft stating they will communicate at their respective creative home at a later stage. Of the delayed project, Ubisoft did comment that the project set for release by March 31, 2026, rumored to be the Black Flag Remake, would instead be released this fiscal year, aka by March 31, 2027.
Currently, both Ubisoft Stockholm and Ubisoft Halifax have fully closed as a result of the changes, with “restructurings” taking place at Ubisoft offices in Abu Dhabi, Trials studio RedLynx, and at Massive, home to The Division.
Are you shocked by Ubisoft's complete shake up? Why are they still mentioning Beyond Good & Evil 2 in their plans when it has been in “development” for over a decade? Come talk all things Ubisoft or just gaming with us in our Discord TheGamerzTheory.
