Valve Clarifies: Steam Machine, Steam Frame Still Shipping This Year

After posting a blog on Friday, called Steam Year in Review 2025, Valve is attempting to clarify statements made in the post about the Steam Machine, Steam Frame VR headset, and new Steam controller. Valve had previously stated in a separate post that the Steam Machine and Steam Frame would release in the first half of 2026, though neither has gotten a price nor release details yet.

The blog, however, seemed to cast some doubt on the release date being in 2026, originally stating:

“Here’s the lineup of hardware we announced in 2025. We hope to ship in 2026, but as we shared recently, memory and storage shortages have created challenges for us. We’ll share updates publicly when we finalize our plans.”

Using "we hope to ship" gave some fans a worry that the delay for the products could push back into 2027. However, Valve has since edited the blog, removing “we hope to ship” from the blog now and adding more concrete statements on the products shipping this year.

“Here’s the lineup of hardware we announced in 2025. We shared recently that there have been challenges with memory and storage shortages, but we will be shipping all three products this year. More updates will be shared as we finalize our plans.”

The memory shortages, which have been well covered with their effects on the gaming industry, seem to be getting worse not better, as Valve said that without these shortages all three products would have had release dates already.

“When we announced these products in November, we planned on being able to share specific pricing and launch dates by now. But the memory and storage shortages you’ve likely heard about across the industry have rapidly increased since then.”

Do you think Valve will be able to ship the Steam Machine and Steam Frame in 2026? Or do you think that the continued growing shortages of memory chips will eventually delay them further? Let us know in the comments and make sure to come join us in the GamerzTheory Discord.
