Satya Nadella: “We’re Long on Gaming” - Microsoft Reassures Xbox Fans After Phil Spencer Retirement, Sarah Bond Exit & Project Helix Reveal
The future of Xbox currently seems messy and uncertain, especially with the recent changes at Xbox, including Phil Spencer retiring and Sarah Bond leaving. Fans are questioning Xbox - why even buy an Xbox anymore? Many have already left the platform.
During an internal Q&A shared by Windows Central, Satya Nadella and newly appointed CEO Asha Sharma discussed the future of gaming and the brand beyond Xbox.
“That’s why I’m long on it. Phil, he’s always talked to me about how gaming is the largest entertainment category - what is gaming in its most expansive form going forward?
This doesn’t mean we walk away from people are doing today - when we think about a AAA game on a console. The question is about where else can we go to extend that.
For me, we’re long on gaming. We’ll continue to invest, and we’ll always do so. It’s up to this team to show an excellence in execution, and creativity. Software always carries risk, but this is software with lots of creation risk. It’s way different. But yet, we have to be the best-in-class at it.”

Xbox is trying to reassure fans - and others at Microsoft - that the company is not leaving the gaming industry and still stands behind the core of Xbox as a platform. Xbox has recently revealed Project Helix, the codename for the next generation of Xbox, described as a hybrid Xbox/PC. The Xbox team and Asha Sharma have a lot of work ahead of them to turn things around. Is the next Xbox their saving grace, or are they already too far gone? Let us know in the comments.
