Sony Returns to Exclusives: Single-Player Games Like Ghost of Yotei Will Stay Off PC
Sony is returning to exclusives, as plans have changed and the company will no longer bring single-player games - noticeably PlayStation’s bread and butter - come to other platforms.
According to Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, PlayStation has once again shifted its strategy and will hold back single-player titles from other platforms. As a result, the previously planned Ghost of Yotei will no longer make its way to PC, according to those familiar with the company’s plans.
However, this change appears to apply only to single-player games. Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter Marathon and the fighting game Marvel Tokon will remain multiplatform titles. Those wondering about Housemarque’s latest title, Saros, should also expect the same fate as Ghost of Yotei, as it will not be coming to PC either.
Of course, the video game industry moves incredibly fast, and sources familiar with PlayStation’s internal operations note that while these single-player titles are no longer planned for PC, “never say never,” as plans could change in the future. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Ember Lab’s upcoming title Kena: Scars of Kosmora will continue as planned and will both release on PC.

Why the change? There are several reasons. While PlayStation titles released on PC have sold reasonably well, they have not delivered high-impact numbers. Their biggest success still comes from console and day-one sales. Exclusivity gives players a reason to own a PlayStation - something Microsoft and Xbox have arguably lost by bringing Xbox first-party titles to PC and now to PlayStation platforms as well.
Additionally, if rumors are true, the next Xbox could be a hybrid device that allows access to franchises such as God of War, Horizon, and Spider-Man. This is a move PlayStation seemingly wants to prevent.
What do you think of PlayStation pulling all single-player titles from PC and keeping them exclusive to PlayStation? Is this the right move? Let us know in the comments.
