Highguard Shutting Down Permanently on March 12 | Just 45 Days After Launch - Another Concord?

It’s only been just over a month since the release of Highguard, as Wildlight has announced that its raid shooter will shut down next week.

The former Apex Legends developers revealed the news on the game’s official X account with a statement titled “Highguard’s Final Update.”

“Today we’re sharing difficult news. We have made the decision to permanently shut down Highguard on March 12.”

Despite reaching more than two million players at launch, the game quickly fell from its spotlight reveal at The Game Awards to fewer than 10,000 players within its second week. They continued:

“Despite the passion and hard work of our team, we have not been able to build a sustainable player base to support the game long term. Servers will remain online until March 12. We hope you’ll jump in with us one more time to show your support and get those final great matches in while we still can.”

Wildlight will release one final patch before shutting down its servers, though one may ask the question: why? The update will introduce one last Warden, a new weapon, account-level progression, and skill trees. The team was clearly still looking toward the future, but keeping players engaged with the game ultimately wasn’t possible.

Our own Michael Fisher reviewed Highguard, stating, “The game falls into this void where it does a bunch of things okay. Nothing about the game is better than the titles it borrows from.”

It’s been a wild ride for the team, and unfortunately, Highguard will follow the same fate as Concord in the live-service model. While the raid-shooter concept was certainly a different approach, the game ultimately fell flat. The post’s final update ended with a message of thanks:

“From all of us at Wildlight, thank you for playing, for supporting us, and for being part of Highguard’s story.”

The story has ended for now, but it feels unlikely that this is the last we’ve heard of Highguard. Let us know in the comments what you think about Highguard shutting down.
