Highguard Devs Lay Off Most of Team Just 2 Weeks After Launch
A large portion of Wildlight Entertainment - the team that just launched Highguard - has been laid off. Wildlight Entertainment announced on X yesterday that they have made the tough decision to let go a significant part of their team:
“Today, we made an incredibly difficult decision to part ways with a number of our team members, while keeping a core group of developers to continue innovating and supporting the game. We are proud of the team, the talent, and the product we have created together. We are also grateful for the players who gave the game a chance, and those who continue to be part of our community.”

Highguard first launched on January 26, 2026, with a player base of over 97,000 at launch. However, that number quickly dropped below 6,000 after the first week. Now, nearly three weeks later, Highguard appears to be all but over.
The team may be proud of what they have created, but it was not enough unfortunately. A small group of developers will continue to support and innovate on Highguard, according to their statement. Our thoughts go out to those affected by the layoffs. Let us know in the comments: What do you think of Highguard and the team being let go?
