Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Reimagining Not Remake
With a pair of games set to release in the coming years, Lara Croft is going to be quite busy, while Tomb Raider Catalyst, the next game in the series, isn't set to release until 2027. Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis, a modern reimagining of the 1996 debut title, is set to release this year, and we got some new details on the remake.
While Crystal Dynamics is the main developer of Catalyst, and the owner of the Tomb Raider IP, Polish studio Flying Wild Hog are the one developing Legacy of Atlantis. Flying Wild Hog is best known for the Shadow Warrior Trilogy, and while Crystal Dynamics is working on the newest title, they are still overseeing the project to ensure it aligns with their goal of a unified timeline for Lara Croft.

Speaking to Japanese outlet Famitsu, we got a small sneak peek at Legacy of Atlantis from Crystal Dynamics Studio General Manager Scott Amos and Game Director Will Kerslake. Amos talked about respecting the original’s DNA, while presenting key elements from a new perspective for the modern gamer. Specifically, Amos talked about the moment when Lara Croft encounters a T. rex, with Legacy of Atlantis recreating the scene as an “epic action-adventure moment that will become a new ‘core memory’ for players.”
Kerslake added that the goal of Legacy of Atlantis is to maintain the feeling of the original game, preserving elements such as “confident and reliable Lara Croft” and strategic puzzle solving. All in reworked environments and level layouts with the game set in Unreal Engine 5. Amos also teased that the game would contain “new surprises and novelties.”
