Epic Games Store Coming to Next Xbox Console on Day One – Epic Confirms Plans

Epic Games Store has announced plans to be available on the next Xbox console from day one. The news of Xbox aiming to expand its reach is not new, with the next iteration of the Xbox console rumored to be a console/PC hybrid. Xbox recently launched the ROG Xbox Ally X handheld device, and with this new approach, it appears Xbox is focused on releasing its newest console next year, in 2027, which will bring a variety of other storefronts to the device.

In a recent interview with Game File, Epic Games Store head Steve Allison said the company has been in discussions with Microsoft about featuring their storefront on the next Xbox console. Xbox is no stranger to integrating other platforms into its ecosystem. Currently, players have access to EA Play and Ubisoft Connect on their Xbox. The most recent Xbox Ally X|S also features Steam, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, among other apps. According to Allison, Xbox will continue adding platforms on their next console.

When discussing the upcoming Xbox console, which is believed to be a hybrid system capable of playing both Xbox titles and PC games, Allison said Epic Games plans to add a dedicated Epic Games Store app for the device, giving players access to their Epic Games library of PC titles.

“We definitely plan to be on the new hardware for Xbox, because, unless their policy or stance on it changes, they are telling us they’re going to welcome that. And we’re going to be there, like, on day one. That will probably require us to build in whatever their requirements are, some sort of software to support that,” Allison said.
