Ubisoft Fires 13-Year Veteran David Michaud-Cromp After Company Criticism

Ubisoft continues to make headlines, for all the wrong reasons. David Michaud-Cromp, an employee at Ubisoft who was suspended last week for three days, for what he claims were comments criticising the company, has now been terminated. Ubisoft at the time of writing this article had not commented on Cromp's termination and the reasons behind it.

Cromp, who had worked at Ubisoft for 13 years, last week on social media announced he was suspended for public comments regarding the company’s return-to-office policy and an alleged breach of duty to loyalty. Later, it was revealed that Cromp had posted screenshots in Ubisoft’s internal communications channel.

In the screenshots of his comments in the Ubisoft channels, Cromp criticized Ubisoft’s RTO policies, investing in GaaS that “keeps running away to bite us in the bollocks,” and the closing down of studios. He also hit back at the decision to have Vantage Studios run by now co-CEO Charlie Guillemot, who is the son of Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot, citing that he’s pretty much only got Unagi games on his resume.

Later Cromp went on to say that he agreed that costs needed to be trimmed but felt that unless those changes started at the top, nothing would change. Ubisoft's last month and a half have been full of interesting choices, such as the decision to focus on Games as a Service (GaaS), including the continued production of Beyond Good & Evil 2.

What do we make of all this drama within Ubisoft? Do you think they will eventually come out stronger or are we watching the slow death of a former video game juggernaut? Leave a comment down below and make sure to join TheGamerzTheory Discord.
