Marathon Cryo Archive Launch: New End-Game Zone, Vaults Today & Ranked Mode Season 1 Tomorrow

Marathon’s first end-game zone, the Cryo Archive, opens today, thanks to the community working through Marathon's alternate reality game, opening the first door to the UESC. Cryo Archive takes place aboard an abandoned UESC Marathon, and you better be ready for some action.

The Cryo Archive will feature six weeks, plus seven high-security Vaults that offer unique weapons and top-tier loot. With all the wealth, you cannot just walk into the Cryo Archive, players must be level 25 and equip at least a 5,000 credit loadout to be able to drop into the area.

Keep your eye out for unique Codex rewards as well. Players can earn new styles (skins) for all six Runner shells, a new title, Vidmaster, and much more.

Coming out on Saturday will be the first season of ranked mode for Marathon. Players can climb the competitive ladder, as they fight to prove they are the best Runner on Tau Ceti IV. There are two different matchmaking pools, Low Stakes and High Stakes, each with different gear ante and Holotag requirements.

Holotags are central to progression, they set score targets, allow for overperformance capacity when looted from enemies and can be purchased or found during matches. Additional mechanics including Tag Chips, loot caps, and crew-based scoring make each run completely unique.
