Sledgehammer Games Developing Unannounced Action RPG?
One of the developers best known for their work both creating and contributing to the Call of Duty franchise appears to be, or at least was, branching out from their comfort zone and working on a brand-new Action RPG. Sledgehammer Games, who has led the way on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (2023) and Call of Duty: Vanguard (2021) as well as assisted on several COD games including the most recent Call of Duty Black Ops 7 has had their new title leaked in a way.
According to the LinkedIn Profile of Ben Wanat, who worked at Sledgehammer Games as a Senior Creative Director. Wanat now works as the Creative Director and co-founder of LUrker Entertainment. However, the interesting tidbit comes from his profile discussing his time at Sledgehammer, where Wanat stated,
Creative director for Unannounced action RPG
-
Franchise planning, pitching, hiring, planning
-
Directing prototypes, player mechanics for mechanics-rich design
-
World layout, location layout
-
Concept and asset creation for cultures, environments, characters
-
Lore books for world, cultures, languages

Wanat’s LinkedIn also noted he only contributed to Vanguard during his time at Sledgehammer, which alludes to the idea that a majority of his time was spent on the unnamed action RPG. What remains of the game with Wanat gone remains to be seen. The action RPG is a very wide-ranging category, so it could be hard to pinpoint exactly what Sledgehammer Games is going for, but it's safe to say it will be unlike any of the Call of Duty titles they are known for working on.
