We finally have our first details on Gears of War: E-Day since its 2024 announcement trailer. The team at The Coalition has been relatively quiet until a recent interview teased a release year for the game. Set as a prequel to the first Gears game, 14 years before the events in Gears 1, E-Day is set to feature fan favorites from the series such as Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago.

Celebrating the Big 2-0

In an end-of-the-year wrap-up from Xbox featuring several of their teams, Mike Crump, the studio head at The Coalition, was asked what the team was most looking forward to in 2026. His answer gives hope to Gears fans that E-Day is coming in 2026.

“Next year marks the 20th anniversary of Gears of War, and we can’t think of a bigger way to celebrate than with the release of Gears of War: E-Day,” Crump continued. “This is our most ambitious game yet, entirely built from scratch in Unreal Engine 5 to feel like Gears and play like new. This is a return to our roots as Marcus and Dom face the Locust for the first time ever. It’s the best place to jump into the Gears universe, and we can’t wait to share more next year.”

Can E-Day Fit in a Jam-Packed 2026?

A 20th anniversary seems like the perfect time to get fans back into the beloved franchise, and it will be interesting to see what news we get in the early stages of 2026. Remember, that pesky GTA 6 is set to be release later in the year, so E-Day will need some urgency if it does indeed plan to release next year. With no gameplay or even new trailers since 2024, I am still skeptical that we will see Gears: E-Day next year, but I would love nothing more than to be proven wrong.
