State of Decay 3 4-Player Co-op Finally Explained - True Shared World & Server Hosting!
Undead Labs has once again begun discussing its zombie-infected title and what players can expect when they jump in. State of Decay originally released on the Xbox 360 in 2013, and the game received a follow-up with many improvements when State of Decay 2, released in 2018.
However, many have long waited for the next instalment in the series, which will bring the zombie survival experience to an entirely new level. You can learn more about the full breakdown of the game here, but one of the most exciting features of State of Decay is the game’s co-op experience, as players won’t have to face the infected alone. In an interview with Sunny Games, creative director Philip Holt gave a little insight into the game’s co-op multiplayer features.

State of Decay 3 will meet player expectations with a four-player, co-op shared world that everyone can play together. Players will be able to join each other in a synchronous or asynchronous shared-world experience. Players should be aware of who they invite into their community: if you are not online while others are, your character is at risk of not surviving the next day.
Players will be able to scavenge and build their community together, similarly to State of Decay 2. However, State of Decay 2 used a peer-to-peer networking model, allowing a player to join a host and help within their friend’s world. In State of Decay 3, the game will be hosted on a server, introducing more player freedom. In this shared world, players won’t feel tethered to each other, giving them a sense of complete freedom to pursue their own motivations without the feeling of being stuck together the entire time - though players likely won’t want to veer too far away from each other… just in case!
