The Last of Us Factions 2 Was 80% Complete When Canceled Director Reveals
Last of Us Factions 2 lead Vinit Agarwal, recently did an interview on the Lance E. Lee podcast and gave us a few more details about the canceled project and just how close it was to being finished.
Agarwal said that the game had been in the works for 7 years, from 2016–2023, around the time of cancellation, Factions 2 was roughly 80% done. Vini noted that during the pandemic money was flooding into the gaming industry, and multiplayer games were viewed as a way to stay connected, and Factions 2 backed this philosophy.
After the pandemic, money began to try up. Visit stated they had to make a choice, either finish up Factions 2 or go back to their bread and butter with single-player titles. Now we know this is Intergalactic. The studio chose to go the single player route because that is what they were known for, leading to the cancellation of Factions 2.

Visit would stay on with Naughty Dog for one more year, working on a yet unnamed single player title, not Intergalactic. Currently, Visit has his own studio in Japan making a gritty and mature 90s anime-styled game.
Last week, Terminal War, an indie title, teased on social media, "They canceled The Last of Us Faction 2, so we are building our own version of it.”
Are you shocked to hear how close Factions 2 was to being completed before cancellation? Do you think this indie game can fill the void? Let us know in the comments and make sure to come join the GamerzTheory Discord.
