Uncharted 5 Teased? Naughty Dog Dev Drops Cryptic "RESEARCH" Photo
Was Uncharted 5 just teased?
It’s certainly been a while since we’ve seen anything from our globe-trotting friends Nathan and Sully from the Uncharted series, which last saw a new entry in 2016 with Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. That game seemed to mark the end of Nate’s journey; however, there’s always the possibility of a return in one form or another. Whether that means passing the baton to another Drake or embarking on a fresh adventure with an entirely new character, creative director Shaun Escayg has raised the question of a possible return to the series.
Fans have quickly interpreted Shaun’s Instagram post of a cannon in a remote tropical destination, captioned “RESEARCH,” as the next instalment in the Uncharted series—suggesting a possible return. One comment by Professor_Gill read, “This is my country, Trinidad and Tobago🇹🇹. That picture was taken on the island of Trinidad… (Fort George). You can YouTube it.”

Essentially, Naughty Dog has led many to believe they were finished with the Uncharted series. However, Naughty Dog head Neil Druckmann has stated in the past that “Uncharted 5 could happen with a different developer.” Druckmann would also help ensure that whoever took over the series kept the “essence” of it intact.
This isn’t to say Naughty Dog hasn’t branched off another team within the studio to begin the next title in the series. However, Naughty Dog is quite busy with Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and possibly the next entry in The Last of Us, which many believe would be the third and final chapter of that series. In an unusual move, Naughty Dog has yet to release a game during the PlayStation 5’s lifecycle. Intergalactic could potentially skip this generation altogether and release as a PlayStation 6 launch title. However, as demand for RAM has made it harder to source, many believe it may be some time before we see the release of the PlayStation 6—extending the PlayStation 5’s lifecycle. Because of this, Intergalactic may have to release on the PlayStation 5 after all. Time will tell.
Let us know what you think Naughty Dog is working on next. Is the photo of the cannon a tease for Uncharted 5? Drop your comments below.
