Terminal War Interview: Alabtross Interactive Is Building a Fair, Skill-Based 4v4 Shooter
Terminal War is a new 4v4 third-person shooter from Albatross Interactive. Alec Favale joined us on Theory Unlocked to talk about his upcoming game. The game launched itself into the public eye just a few weeks ago when it was announced that the indie studio was making their own version of The Last of Us Factions 2.
Of course, anytime a game is focused on PVP, the idea of fun comes into question. Long-time FPS players like myself are all too familiar with terms like SBMM (Skill Based Match Making) or EBMM (Engagement-Based Match Making), so we asked Alec how the studio plans to ensure that anyone from a dad with a few hours a night to the sweat playing long days can compete on equal footing.
“I used to be that guy logging a lot of hours on Call of Duty, but now my friends and I fit into the guys coming home from work, with just a few hours to play. I want to ensure that Terminal War focuses on skill first and foremost. If you and I get into a gunfight, the guy with the better skills should be the one who wins most of the time.”
Alec pointed out that his inspiration came from losing fights on Call of Duty: War zone and feeling like guns kill was losing its meaning,
“I remember taking 1v1 fights and always losing and seeing that the guy I lost too had a gun from the battle pass that he had to pay for and with all these special attachments. I am trying to avoid that scenario from occurring in Terminal War.”
He continued on to say that something that always had him locked in, especially in The Last of Us Factions, was seeing someone with a high level on the enemy team and wanting to be the guy that comes out on top,
“Nothing made me and my buddies lock in more than seeing a guy at level 99, we knew we had to do everything to win. High levels should be a cosmetic badge, not something that gives an advantage to people.”
You can wishlist Terminal Wars on their Steam page.
