No Nicki Minaj Skins or Gold Camo: How Terminal War Stays Grounded After Factions 2 Got Cancelled
It’s often easy to get carried away and want to bring nearly everything you possibly can into a game - especially when it’s your first one. However, sticking to a clear vision seems to be the approach Alec and his team are taking with their game, Terminal War. We sat down with Alec during this week’s episode of Theory Unlocked and asked a variety of questions about the game. One of them was:
How grounded is Terminal War going to stay? Will there be zombies or Clickers later on? What kind of skins should players expect?
Alec previously joked that there will be no Nicki Minaj skin in the game.
“In terms of aesthetic, it will always remain a gritty, bleak looking game, it will never have [bright] colours” as he laughs. “There will never be a diamond or gold skin in the game.”
Alec went on to explain the factions, giving us a clearer understanding of the grounded, gritty nature players can expect when playing as all three. “You will have to play all three of them,” he noted.
“The Federal Faction, which is the most militarized one; the other large faction, the LSUC - a banded-together group of civilians and police that makes up half the country, with more of a paramilitary structure. Then you have the Banshee Militia, which features pure underground civilian clothing that’s slightly modified.”
These factions will represent a full spectrum of military, paramilitary, and civilian groups, all set in the 1990s. Alec emphasized that fans won’t see any “futuristic-looking gear,” and he was quick to mention that the brief slice of unofficial gameplay shown so far is just that - it’s not the final reveal of characters. The content shown is a conceptual showcase that will be adjusted to fit the 1990s setting upon release.
From our conversation with Alec, it’s clear the team is focused on staying true to the spirit of The Last of Us Factions - gritty, hardcore, and meaningful. Don’t expect a bright, colourful world with over-the-top characters, flashy skins, or weapons that do more than shoot bullets. Terminal War embraces a mature tone, with brutal kill animations designed to feel rewarding and true to the nature of the game.
