Here we go again as we just received word from PlayStation that due to ongoing challenges in the global economic environment, Sony Interactive Entertainment has decided to adjust pricing for their PlayStation family of consoles - PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal remote player worldwide. PlayStation has stated:
“The change has been made after careful evaluation and is a necessary step to ensure the continued deliverance of innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players worldwide.”
In Canada, the updated recommended retail prices for PS5 consoles will take effect on April 2, 2026, as outlined below:
- PS5 Standard Edition – CAD $819.99
- PS5 Digital Edition – CAD $749.99
- PS5 Pro – CAD $1,099.99
The PlayStation Portal remote player will also see a price update starting April 2, with a new recommended retail price of CAD $319.99.
The PlayStation 5 released in 2020, six years ago and the PlayStation 5 Pro released in 2024. In prior years, as years go along in the consoles lifecycle prices tend to decrease in hope to gain more sales before moving on with the next generation. We’re clearly in unprecedented times as once again, the PlayStation 5 console generation is getting another price increase.
