Bungie Marathon Sells 1.2 Million Copies: Steam Dominates with 800K

Bungie’s Marathon is estimated to have sold 1.2 million copies across all platforms, according to data firm Alinea Analytics. A majority of the sales are said to be coming from Steam. Where the title sold 250k copies before launch, with an estimated 800k sales from PC players. PS5 comes in a distant second at 217k estimated players, and Xbox rounds up the group with an estimated 133k copies.

While the extraction shooter has been lagging behind Arc Raiders for total popularity, Marathon has been able to keep the players who did hop in logging back on. Across all platforms, according to Alinea, Marathon has between 300k to 480k daily active users.

The past weekend, when Ranked and Cryo Archive made their debuts, averaged 380k daily users across all platforms. Interesting Alinea Analytics also showed that the majority of Marathon players seem to be Bungie fans who are hoping onto the studio's latest game. 78.2% of Marathon players have previously played Destiny 2 on Steam. The trend continues on consoles, with PlayStation and Xbox coming in at 74.2% and 82.7% respectively.

For those curious about older Bungie titles, 36.1% of Steam users who played Halo: The Master Chief Collection have also hopped into Marathon.

Marathon’s development team also announced some changes to the rotation of Cryo Archive and Ranked play following feedback about their releases last week.

We're going to open Cryo Archive this week on Thursday, March 26 at 10AM PT and close it on Sunday, March 29 at 10AM PT. The next window for Ranked will start on Sunday, March 29th at 10AM PT and will run for four days - until Thursday, April 2nd at 10AM PT.
