Starfield Gets NVIDIA DLSS 5 | Fans Call It "AI Filter Slop

Starfield will use AI technology moving forward with NVIDIA’s newly revealed DLSS 5, which blends rendered images closer to reality than ever before. However, this has not been met with a warm reception from fans, many of whom are calling it “AI filter slop.”

NVIDIA revealed its new DLSS 5 technology yesterday, stating that it is the company’s most significant breakthrough in computer graphics since the debut of real-time ray tracing in 2018. The new technology is already being supported by some of the biggest studios in the industry, including Bethesda, CAPCOM, Hotta Studio, NetEase, NCSOFT, S-GAME, Tencent, Ubisoft, and Warner Bros. Games.

“NVIDIA and Bethesda have a long history of pushing gaming graphics and innovation forward, and DLSS 5 represents the next major step in that journey," said Todd Howard, studio head and executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios. "With DLSS 5, the artistic style and detail shine through without being held back by the traditional limits of real-time rendering. We’re excited to work with this new technology and look to bring DLSS 5 to Starfield and future Bethesda titles.”

DLSS 5 will be making its way to some of the largest games around, including AION 2, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Black State, Cinder City, Delta Force, Hogwarts Legacy, Justice, NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, NTE: Neverness to Everness, Phantom Blade Zero, Resident Evil Requiem, Sea of Remnants, Starfield, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Where Winds Meet, and more.

What do you think of NVIDIA’s new DLSS 5 technology? Is it AI slop, or does it genuinely improve game visuals and lighting? Let us know in the comments.
