Bluepoint Games Closure: God of War Live Service Cancelled, Remake Pitches Rejected
Bluepoint Games is the latest studio closure, with Sony closing the studio's doors last week. The studio was behind the remakes of both Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus. Detective Seeds on X was able to interview two employees of the studio, and we got a little bit more of a background into the studio's final weeks.
Despite numerous reports, both employees told Detective Seeds that the final game greenlit for Bluepoint was a God of War live service game. Eventually, after missing several deadlines, according to the employees, the project was shut down by PlayStation. Both employees said that Bluepoint had not secured any greenlit projects since the God of War game was cancelled.

Following the God of War project, Bluepoint pitched four new projects to PlayStation and none were greenlit. One employee said two of the projects were remakes, claiming that PlayStation did not believe that they would have been successful in the market. Both projects would have been single-player experiences. Neither employee named the projects pitched, because, according to them, one of those projects is now being worked on by another studio. The employees told Detective Seeds they did not know why the project was greenlit for a new studio but not for Bluepoint.
Both employees said that the headcount at the studio had been dwindling even before the shutdown, dropping into the 50s at the time of closing. While both employees said that they were not involved in conversations about the studio closure, the feeling around the studio was that once the projects had been denied, it was only a matter of time before a shutdown.
