Next God of War Game Datamined: Egypt Setting Hints with Athena, Atreus & Mau Cutscenes
Next God of War Game Has Been Datamined
News about the next God of War game has surfaced, reportedly from a Reddit user who datamined files pointing to the upcoming installment in the series. This information should be taken with a grain of salt. Spoilers for those who have not yet played the game follow in the next paragraph.
A hidden cutscene was discovered, portraying a higher power speaking with Athena about Odin and Atreus. Additionally, an unknown character called the “Robed Figure” says, “To lefkó fídi tha se fáei,” which is Greek for “The white snake will eat you.” The Robed Figure appears to be Athena, speaking in a manner similar to how Baldur was called “The Stranger” and Freya “Hermit Witch” before their full reveals.
In another cutscene, Atreus, during his travels, converses with an individual called “Mau.” This individual speaks in another language and only says the word “Mau” while traveling with Atreus. Atreus seems able to communicate with this individual. “Mau” is Egyptian for “cat,” referencing the Sun God Ra.

This aligns with the intro format of God of War’s 2018 reboot, which also had hidden files datamined at the beginning.
The dialogue in the scene goes as follows:
- Atreus: “Wake up. I think we’re close.”
- Mau: “Mau?”
- Atreus: “Hey, you insisted on coming along. C’mon, let’s have a look.”
- Mau: “Mau.”
- Atreus: “I hope you're right. Sounds like we found it.”
And:
- Robed Figure: “To lefkó fídi tha se fáei.”
- Robed Figure: “One failed us. One rejected us.”
- Athena: “We have a problem.”
This conversation leads some to believe that “one failed us” refers to Odin, and “one rejected us” refers to Atreus. Odin failed to succeed in his quest for Athena, while Atreus rejected them when he destroyed the mask.
There have been ongoing discussions about the next God of War game heading to Egypt. This new information may point toward the beginning of the next God of War title and its potential setting. Again, all of this is pure speculation and should be taken with a grain of salt.
In other PlayStation news, Sony has decided to close down the legendary remake studio, Bluepoint Games.
