Sony Shuts Down Bluepoint Games: Demon's Souls Remake Studio Closes with 70 Layoffs

The latest wave of layoffs comes in the form of Bluepoint Games, as Sony is reportedly shutting down the legendary studio.

Bluepoint Games has been a world-renowned industry legend for their masterful work on remasters, including Shadow of the Colossus, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Demon’s Souls, and many others. However, the studio is now being closed.

Word came from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who learned that approximately 70 employees will lose their jobs following a recent business review. Bluepoint Games will officially close its doors next month.

“Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community,” said one spokeperson. “We thank them for their passion, creativity and craftmanship."

The studio had plans for its own original creation, beginning development on a live-service God of War game following PlayStation’s wave of live-service attempts. With this latest sad news of layoffs, our hearts go out to all those affected.

Now, we question the future of other teams working with Sony PlayStation. Bend Studio, the team behind Days Gone, recently had their game cancelled by PlayStation - are they next? Jade Raymond left Haven Studios back in May 2025 after the lack of response to Fairgames. We haven’t heard anything from the studio since, which points to more unfortunate news to come. We recently received word that Bungie will delay the release of Destiny 2: Shadow and Order by three months. With Marathon coming up quickly, one can’t help but wonder what the studio’s future holds if Marathon and the upcoming Destiny expansion do not meet expectations. Will we also see Bungie close its doors?

If Bluepoint Games is unable to keep its doors open, who’s next? Let us know what you think of Bluepoint Games in the comments. We’ve reached out for comment and will update the article when we hear back.
