God of War: Sons of Sparta The Worst-Rated Game in God of War Franchise

The latest entry in the God of War series, God of War: Sons of Sparta, currently has the worst rating of the entire franchise on Metacritic. The 2D Metroidvania God of War title was shadow dropped last week during the PlayStation State of Play event and the early reviews have not been great.

Shout out to GamesRadar+ for the spot. If you search for God of War on Metacritic it becomes apparent very quickly that Sons of Sparta falls short of the standard for the franchise. Led by the 2018 God of War and Ragnarök at 94, in addition, all the titles from the Greek Trilogy score above 90.

Only two games in the entire God of War collection prior to Son of Sparta sat below an 84 on Metacritic, with God of War III: Remastered and God of War: Ascension at 81 and 80 respectively. Even those, however, are high compared to Son of Sparta, which currently holds a score of 69, which matches the critic score and has a 6.6 in user reviews.

With Santa Moncia announcing a God of War Trilogy remake, does the recent Son of Sparta flop create any cause for concern for the new titles? Give us your thoughts in the comments and make sure to join our GamerzTheory Discord.
