Ex-Rockstar Animator: Crimson Desert Could Steal Game of the Year from GTA 6 If It 'Drops the Ball'

The Game of the Year has felt like a foregone conclusion to be heading back to Rockstar for GTA 6, as long as the game is not delayed again. However, a former Rockstar Game animator, Mike York, believes GTA 6 might have a challenge for Game of the Year, especially if the series drops the ball with the upcoming game.

York, a former GTA V and God of War Ragnarök animator, recently spoke about the other hyped open-world game launching this year, Crimson Desert and said that the title has a real chance to contend with GTA 6 for the ultimate award in gaming.

"This game, this could be Game of the Year, okay. Mark my words, and the reason for that is because of how much you can get lost in this game... it really is a contender when it comes to all the cool stuff all this game kind of has to offer. If GTA VI drops the ball, this could be Game of the Year, if GTA VI wasn't here at all this year, this (Crimson Desert) would probably take Game of the Year, from what it looks like."

Of course, that is a big IF, when it comes to GTA 6 dropping that ball as others pointed out on Reddit: “Please tell me when Rockstar dropped the ball in any of their games," while some did point out that neither GTA 5 nor Red Dead Redemption 2 had perfect launches.

What do you think? Is GTA 6 a lock for Game of the Year or could Crimson Desert sneak in and claim the award if Rockstar has launch issues? Let us know in the comments and make sure to join the official GamerzTheory Discord.
