Project Windless Revealed: Open-World Action RPG as Mighty Bird Warrior Hero King in The Bird That Drinks Tears Universe

Project Windless made its debut at the Sony State of Play Showcase this week, and now we have more details about the game based in the universe of the Korean novel series The Bird That Drinks Tears. Currently set to release for PS5 and PC, the game has been in development since 2022, with a release date yet to be announced.

Set as a single-player experience, Project Windless focuses on a conflict that spans several continents. With mastery-driven combat and massive real-time battles, held nicely together by impressive storytelling. With the ability to forge alliances and shape the conflicts that unfold in the world in a non-linear structured game play.

While Project Windless is set within The Bird That Drinks Tears world, the game is 1,500 years before the original story. Which allows Project Windless to serve as both an entry point for a global audience, while expanding the universe for long-time fans. With the world set to feature four intelligent races, each with their own culture, conflicts, and world view; Humans, Rekon, Nhaga, and Tokkebi.

Players in Project Windless take control of a mighty Reckon warrior, known as the Hero King. A towering humanoid bird being feared for their strength and ferocity. Hero King wields twin star-forged blades, making him a force that can overcome overwhelming odds.

KRAFTON montreal Studio Head and Creative Director Patrik Methe said on the game

From the start, we asked ourselves what it really means to play a legendary figure in a fantasy world. For us, that meant giving players real agency, not just in combat, but in how wars unfold, how alliances are formed, and how history is written. Project Windless is built around the idea that legend is not something you observe, it is something you actively create through play.
