Crimson Desert Voice Actor Alec Newman Reveals 5-Year Rollercoaster Recording Experience for Kliff

Crimson Desert actor’s experience was a rollercoaster ride of a job. Voice actor Alec Newman plays the role of Kliff in the smash success from Pearl Abyss, which sold 3 million copies within the game’s first week of launch. However, the journey to release was filled with strange and unexpected challenges. Newman described his experience as “the gift that kept on giving,” though it was far from easy. He explained that “the roller coaster of being in Crimson Desert is very different,” as he told the Friends Per Second podcast hosts.

Newman continued, saying the focus of the project would constantly change. “The script kept changing at various stages. It felt much like making a TV series where they kept shifting the focus. In fact, it’s not a secret if you look at the way Crimson Desert came into being.”

Newman played Kliff over the course of five years. He was drawn to the role because of the character’s tone. With a Witcher- and Viking-inspired elemental mix, combined with similarities to characters he had played in other titles, it was a role he felt naturally connected to. He even “accidentally” tied his own voice into the character through his family-man approach.

Crimson Desert, though initially receiving mixed reviews, has recently climbed the ranks and currently sits at a 77 from media critics and an 8.8 from fans on Metacritic. Many players begin to understand the appeal of Crimson Desert after the 8–10 hour mark of the game. That is certainly a challenge for some, but if you can power through those first sluggish hours, many believe it’s one of the better games of the year - if not the best so far. (We’re still waiting for GTA VI to make any official statements.) Regardless, the game has created significant buzz and achieved notable financial success.
