The Witcher 4 Taking Cues from Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

The Witcher 4 Taking Cues from Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Witcher 4 recently had a tech demo, and during the demo, co-CEO of CD Projekt Red Adam Badowski spoke on not only the expectations for Witcher 4, but how the video game landscape as a whole has changed since the release of Witcher 3 over a decade ago.

Badowski said that while he understands things have changed for players' expectations since Witcher 3, the core goals of Witcher and CD Projekt Red have not shifted.

"So here we feel very strongly at the same time, so many great things happened in gameplay [since The Witcher 3]. What are players' expectations here? And there are great games, great mechanics and plus UI [improvements]. So this is the idea for our development, and we are focusing on that, but at the same time, we strongly believe in the core of what we are doing here."

Badowski went on to praise Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, stating he loved the game's realism and sense of humor. Going on to say that CD Projekt Red has been following Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 because some of the systems in the game match the style they want to take The Witcher 4 in.

"There's so many options, you can change the world, it's super great. And we would like to keep that, we'd like to follow this trend as well. So these are our next steps for sure, and it's kind of a similar challenge to what we have in The Witcher 3 because of the open world and storytelling here, freedom of choices. But at the same time, we would like to build very fleshy, very well-motivated characters. So it's kind of in contradiction from time-to-time. That's a great design challenge."

In other Witcher news, the Witcher 1 remake currently being worked on by Fool’s Theory has been delayed a year to 2028. This is due to Fool’s Theory being reassigned to assist on Witcher 4, which has slowed progress on the remake, according to Noble Securities.
