Nintendo Switch 2 Hits 17.37 Million Sales: Fastest-Selling Console Ever, On Track for 20M+

The Nintendo Switch 2 continues to climb the sales charts and is quickly becoming the fastest-selling device for Nintendo. The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in stores on June 5, 2025, and rapidly became the handheld of choice for Nintendo fans. The swift sales of the Switch 2 have already reached 17.37 million units as of last year’s holiday season, ending December 31, 2025.

The fast-paced sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 mean that the sequel to the original Switch is on track to outsell its predecessor, selling nearly 10 million more units compared to the same time period. This surge is partly due to the holiday season - timing is everything - but the impressive figures speak for themselves. Nintendo has set a forecast of 19 million units sold by the end of the current fiscal year (late March). With this projection, the Nintendo Switch 2 could surpass 20 million units sold by the end of this fiscal year, a highly likely achievement.

The original Switch continues to sell as well; the nine-year-old console managed to sell 3.25 million units during the past quarter, bringing its total to 155 million units sold. This milestone makes it Nintendo’s best-selling console hardware ever, just surpassing the Nintendo DS, which reached 154 million units. Whether the Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to surpass this feat remains to be seen.

As far as games are concerned, it should come as no surprise that Mario Kart World has been the staple for the Switch 2, with 14.03 million units sold. While bundles have contributed to these sales numbers, it’s still an impressive achievement. Donkey Kong: Bananza swung its way to 4.25 million units, and Kirby Air Riders slid in with 1.76 million units.
