Assassin’s Creed, one of Ubisoft’s largest franchises, took fans to the much-requested location of feudal Japan last year with Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Now, as most players have likely completed the larger-than-life journey back to the Sengoku Period in 1579, fans and Ubisoft alike are gearing up for the next Assassin’s Creed adventure. According to one user on X, Ubisoft is now working on downloadable content (DLC) for the upcoming title.

The news comes from TheRealZephryss on X, who spotted a Discord comment from lead writer Darby McDevitt regarding the upcoming Assassin’s Creed title, codenamed Hexe. Zephryss believes that Darby’s comment is speaking about future content:

“This is close, Kristen is the lead writer of the main story. Chris is a lead guiding another team on other content.
And I am the evil puppet master who chooses the color of the ink we use. But I have to listen to Clint, the boss of bosses.”

The most intriguing part of this conversation is the mention that “Chris is a lead guiding another team on other content,” which leads many to believe this ‘other content’ is likely planned DLC for Ubisoft’s AC Hexe title, set to release later this year.

Ubisoft first revealed AC Hexe during Ubisoft Forward in 2022. A cinematic teaser featured dead leaves swirling around a fiery Assassin's Creed insignia crafted from broken sticks, accompanied by 17th-century script. When translated, the script reads: “We work in the dark to serve the light.” Hexe, the game’s current codename, means ‘witch’ in German, indicating the next location for Assassin’s Creed fans to explore.

Ubisoft describes the next entry in the series as a “very different title” with a strong feminine energy that will leave a lasting mark on the franchise. The new title will join the Animus Hub, a location featured in some previous titles and all future entries in the Assassin’s Creed series.
