Monster Hunter Wilds PC FPS Issues Reportedly Tied to DLC Checks: More DLC = Better Performance

Monster Hunter Wilds’ PC issues have been notorious ever since the game was released. Recently a Reddit user, de_Tylmarande, posted a lengthy investigation in the Monster Hunter subreddit that appears to show that recent FPS issues are tied to how much DLC the player owns.

de_Tylmarande said they first noticed the issue after logging onto a friend's account and realizing that the constant FPS issues they had on their own Steam account were gone, and the game performed much better.

“Okay, I delete the save, replay the exact same scenario 1:1, run through the intro/tutorial again, go to the hub – and performance is on the floor. I relog back into my friend account – and everything is fine. Nonsense. Shock. I refused to believe what I was seeing.”

Eventually, they reached the conclusion that the only difference between their games was that de_Tylmarande owned none of the DLC while his friend owned all the games' DLC. According to the post, players without the DLC face growing performance issues due to the game's “aggressive DLC checks” and if a player had all DLC installed the game would stop doing any checks.

To test this theory further, de_Tylmarande said they created a simple mod that fooled the game into thinking all the DLC was present, without actually owning or pirating any DLC, and that following the mod “And yes, performance went through the roof. Yes, without any CPU boost, in Balance mode. On any settings. The game literally flies.”

For now de_Tylmarande has said they will not release the mod, instead forwarding their findings to Capcom in hopes the game's aggressive DLC checks can be toned down. Though they did state if Capcom refuses to add a fix in upcoming patches, they would release the mod to help players who do not have the DLC.
