The Canceled Nolan Batman Game We Never Got | Project Apollo
The Batman Game We Never Played
Back in 2010, there was one game many were looking forward to playing in hopes of another great Batman experience. However, Warner Bros. decided otherwise for fans and canceled the game "Man of the Knight," Monolith’s Batman game, Apollo.
Recently, one user - MrTaida - shared on Bluesky that they have obtained a cache file full of previous documents with details about the game. These materials, dating from 2009 to 2010, were found in deleted sectors of a company hard drive. The cache includes game files, images, concept art, and more.

The game was set in the Nolan universe. The document points out the “less bankable movie adaptation” of the game and notes that it was to be themed after the Nolan films, featuring stylized characters and a unique look to set it apart from typical movie adaptations.
“Our intent is to make an original game that fits into the Chris Nolan Batman universe, one that will feel familiar to fans of the films and the comics. However, we also intend it to be a game that stands on its own as a new and unique Batman story, complete with a living Gotham City to explore and new characters every bit as expressive and memorable as Dark Knight’s Joker.”
The game was said to play off “Dark and Light.” Although the game was to be 90% set at night, the use of light and shadows would affect how Batman approached each encounter. Stealth would help inflict fear upon his opponents at will. The “Light” would make players aware they were at a disadvantage, with nowhere to hide from the cops or criminals.

It’s disappointing to see what could have been an excellent game remain hidden in the shadows. A Batman game based around the Dark Knight would certainly be a welcome return - if it ever happens. We do know Rocksteady is now back creating a new Batman game in the series; however, little is known about the game after the latest attempt with Suicide Squad.
