Switch 2 Price Safe for Now Amid RAM Shortage Says Nintendo President Furukawa

Switch 2 Price Safe for Now Amid RAM Shortage Says Nintendo President Furukawa

The ongoing RAM pricing situation has been on the mind of most game enthusiasts for the past few months. With an unfortunate history being made last year when the current generation of consoles saw a price increase rather than decrease in their second year on the market. The small light at the end of the tunnel though, appears to be the Switch 2 which, for now, appears to be the lone console unaffected.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa recently spoke with Kyoto Shimbun, which was summarized by Nintendo Patents Watch. The ongoing RAM price increases came up during the interview and the potential impact it could have on Nintendo Systems. Furukawa said for now, components are "procured from suppliers based on Nintendo's medium to long term business plan," as such, memory price increases have no immediate impact on Nintendo’s financial performance, and the Switch 2 price should remain stable for the near future.

Though Furukawa did hint that may change, stating "We must monitor the situation closely," before refusing to comment on any hypotheticals regarding a possible price increase for the console down the line. He did hint at the possibility of a Switch 2 Lite model mentioning that they want to increase Switch 2 accessibility to people "who pick up their first console when reaching a certain age."
