Horizon Clone 'Light of Motiram' Delisted Everywhere After Tencent Settles Aloy Lawsuit with Sony
Tencent has decided to settle its Horizon Aloy clone lawsuit out of court and has delisted Light of Motiram from all major platforms.
Light of Motiram featured a heroine similar to Aloy, battling Horizon-like mechanical beasts, flying on Skywings, and riding other mounts - including legendary Tallnecks that closely resembled those in the Horizon series. The world surrounding the Aloy/Horizon clone was called a “blatant knockoff” by Sony during the ongoing lawsuit. Tencent responded, “Fame does not create a trademark,” arguing that Sony “fails to identify Aloy’s appearance as a trademark outside the game.”

According to a recent filing, Sony and Tencent have jointly asked the court to dismiss the case under a rule that allows both parties to end a lawsuit by agreement. However, outside of Sony and Tencent, no one knows what the confidential settlement between all parties entails. The lawsuit has been dismissed with prejudice, meaning the case is now closed for good, and the current claims cannot be brought back to court at a later date.
Currently, there are no other titles created similarly to the Horizon series. Many games in the past have borrowed likenesses and gone on to have great success. For example, Fortnite often borrows ideas from other studios, PUBG with their battle royale mode and Among Us, among others. At present, Light of Motiram has been put on hold for all promotions and removed from all major storefronts, but what this means for the future of the title remains to be seen.
