Unrecord Revived: Tencent Funds Viral Bodycam Shooter for Full Production

It has been a while since Unrecord was in the news, the game which had a two minute trailer in 2023 sparked massive debate over the ‘photorealistic’ visual as the game depicts police engaging with criminals including a shootout. At the time some even thought the trailer was using real footage and was not gameplay, which Drama Studios the developer of the game has denied.

Now two years later Drama has announced that the viral bodycam shooter, has received funding, with the game entering full production mode with the studio committed to “delivering a single-player FPS defined by hyperrealism, immersive gameplay and engaging storytelling” and that an update on the projecting progression is expected in the next year.

Who else but Tencent?

Drama Studios new funding has come from Tencent, who have their hands in what feels like just about every mainstream video game in recent years. Mark Maslowicz, the VP of partnerships at Tencent said on the news “Tencent believes deeply in creative talent. We’ve been consistently impressed by the drive and dynamism of Drama Studios, and the remarkable progress it has made on Unrecord, especially with such a small team and limited resources.

“This investment will help the studio unlock their full potential and deliver the first of many outstanding games. We’re excited to be part of Drama Studios journey.”
