Larian CEO Swen Vincke: Next Divinity RPG Will Be 'Way Better' Than Baldur’s Gate 3

Larian Studios continues to build the hype for their upcoming Divinity game, as CEO Swen Vincke did an interview with Bloomberg today giving fans a few more details about the game that was teased at The Game Awards earlier last week.

Better than Baldur’s Gate 3?!

Vincke has confirmed that Divinity will be a turn-based RPG just like the last three games from Larian including Bladur’s Gate 3 which has surpassed 20 million units sold to date, and Vincke did not stop there on the comparisons to Larians most famous game. “Baldur's Gate 3 was a good game and I'm proud of it, but I think this one is going to be way better. Here, we are making a system that's made for a videogame. It's much easier to understand” Vincke said to Bloomberg.

Swen also commented on the production cycle for the game, saying that a three to four year cycle is ‘much healthier’ than a six years, and that early access is still in the plans for the upcoming Divinity game. Whether or not Divinity can make that four year cycle remains to be seen, currently a four year cycle would mean a full release by 2027, which at the moment appears unlikely given that early access for the game is not expected in 2026.

Avoiding AI Slop

Of course with every new game, the worry that AI could infest the production is right around the corner, though Vincke did his best to quell the fear of fans, saying that while the game will not contain any directly AI-generated content, the team at Larian is using AI for placeholder text, developing concept art, or internal presentations. Vincke also added that Larian is developing a new engine for the game to help improve streaming performance, and avoid some issues that plagued Baldur’s Gate 3, such as the main city being split in two for performance concerns.
