From Unknown Indie to Game of the Year: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Just Made History with 9 Wins
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Breaks All Records at The Game Awards
The Game Awards took place last night, and with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 already nominated for a record-breaking 13 awards, the team at Sandfall Interactive was expected to take home several honors. What happened was nothing short of historic.
Not only did Clair Obscur: Expedition 33-win multiple awards, but the developers also surprised fans by announcing a completely free update, available now, which adds more missions, side quests, and additional content for players to enjoy.
For the first time in The Game Awards history, a studio - specifically a debut studio with its first game - broke records by winning nine out of the 13 awards for which it was nominated. The previous record holders, God of War Ragnarok and Baldur’s Gate 3, each won six awards. Both established titles were outmatched at last night’s ceremony by an indie studio whose first game was created with a budget of less than $10 million.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 took home the following awards:
- Game of the Year
- Best Game Direction
- Best Narrative
- Best Art Direction
- Best Score and Music
- Best Performance
- Best Independent Game
- Best Debut Indie Game
- Best Role Playing Game
