Star Wars KOTOR Remake Developer Revealed: Mad Head Games Takes Over + KOTOR 2 Plans
Perhaps one of the most requested remakes in gaming, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, has finally had its developer revealed. Thanks to journalist Stephen Totilo, we now know that the remake of Star Wars: KOTOR is being led by Mad Head Games, the studio behind Pagan Online and Scars Above. They are also currently working on Hellraiser: Revival.
The Star Wars: KOTOR remake has been in development since 2020, when rumors began circulating. The game was announced in 2021 at a PlayStation showcase as a PS5/PC exclusive. However, Aspyr Media, who was working on that version, paused the project in mid-2022. While it was known that the developer had changed, the exact name was not revealed until now. Not much is known about Mad Head Games’ progress, aside from Saber Interactive’s CEO stating that development under the new studio was going well.
This was not the only KOTOR news from Totilo, who also revealed that Disney and Lucasfilm Games have been planning a KOTOR II remake, currently codenamed Juliet, as recently as March 2025. This remake would include content cut from the original version. Totilo explained in more detail on a Reddit post that the information came from a legal deposition back in March, which is why that was the last update on the project:
Yes, this is more than a rumor because the person who talked about it during their legal deposition was Douglas Reilly, the longtime VP of Lucasfilm Games. The reason for the March cut-off is because that's when the deposition was. At that time, he said it “is still technically on the road map” and that “we’re starting with the remake of KOTOR I.” I don't know about the status of either KOTOR remake since then.
Star Wars fans received one more leak, as a leaker known as Kurakasis said that a major game in the Star Wars franchise with a title ending in “The Old Republic” will be revealed very soon. Could this be at The Game Awards in just a few days, or is it just another internet rumor posted for likes? Only time will tell.
