Paramount Launches $108B Hostile Bid to Steal Warner Bros from Netflix | Batman, Superman & Nemesis System at Stake!
Paramount launches $108.4 billion counterbid to acquire Warner Bros.
Paramount has launched a $108.4 billion counterbid to acquire Warner Bros. This move comes just a week after Netflix agreed to purchase a large part of Warner Bros. for $82.7 billion. While the Warner Bros. board of directors has already approved the deal with Netflix, Paramount’s bid was sent directly to shareholders as a hostile offer, attempting to make any future negotiations public.
Batman and Superman Changing Teams?
The Warner Bros. catalogue includes several high-profile titles such as the “Harry Potter” franchise, the entire DC Comics lineup - including Batman and Superman - and “Game of Thrones,” among others.
If Warner Bros. remains committed to the Netflix deal, it would combine the #1 and #4 most-used streaming services, as the deal would give either side the entirety of HBO Max and its over 120 million global subscribers.
For now, Warner Bros. has stated it will inform shareholders of its decision regarding the new Paramount bid within ten business days. However, the company added that, for now, Warner Bros. remains committed to the previously agreed Netflix deal.
Nemesis System Free?
Perhaps most interestingly for gamers, at stake in this deal is the highly revered Nemesis System, used by Warner Bros. in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. The system received high praise but has not been seen since, and Warner Bros. currently owns a patent for it until 2036. Whether Netflix or Paramount has any interest in the system remains to be seen. The Nemesis System remains one of the most requested features in recent gaming memory, and any chance to bring it back would be a win for gamers.
