Eidos-Montréal Hit by New Layoffs in 2025 – Most Projects Cancelled, More Cuts Coming After Fable & Grounded 2

Eidos Montreal Faces More Layoffs | And They Aren’t Over Yet

Eidos Montreal, a veteran studio founded in 2007 by Stéphane D'Astous under SCi Entertainment, later joined Square Enix in 2009 before being sold to Embracer Group as part of Square Enix’s shift in development. Eidos Montreal’s most successful title, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, sold over 8 million copies within its first year. However, even with large sales, Eidos Montreal have laid off employees.

Now, the studio appears to be struggling, letting staff go amid the ongoing wave of layoffs. Former employees have announced their departures from the studio on LinkedIn, marking a second wave of layoffs. Seventy-five employees were let go back in March, and now at least a dozen more have reportedly been laid off.

Insider Gaming has learned that the layoffs won’t stop there. Sources suggest that most of the projects at the studio have been canceled. Eidos Montreal is now focused on supporting Xbox with development on Grounded 2 and Fable, while a current project that began development in 2019 is reportedly unable to recover its development costs.

Once these few projects are completed, another round of layoffs is expected to follow.

Will these layoffs ever end? It doesn’t seem likely. Although developers love to create and produce beautiful works of art, it is certainly becoming a tougher industry to stay afloat in. Let us know what you think of Eidos Montreal and their current state of layoffs over in our Discord.
