PUBG: Black Budget – Official Reveal, Closed Alpha Dates & Gameplay Details

PUBG, the well-known battle royale game, is now expanding into the hottest genre right now: the Extraction Shooter genre. The competition is certainly heating up, with ARC Raiders currently taking the top spot. But is there room for another? Escape from Tarkov recently launched on Steam with version 1.0. Here comes another extraction shooter.

Krafton revealed today PUBG: Black Budget. Though we’ve heard rumors about a PUBG extraction shooter being in development, it’s now been officially revealed, with a closed alpha scheduled.

PUBG Studios will look to put a fresh spin on the series, with their extraction shooter focusing on exploration and discovery, rather than the more commonly found survival and combat. Set on Coli, a mysterious island trapped in a time loop and consumed by a supernatural phenomenon known as the Anomaly, players will face various PvPvE threats while seeking top-secret technology and unraveling the truth behind the black-budget initiative, SAPIENS.

The game will begin with FPP (first-person perspective) to start the journey. It’s unknown if the team has plans to implement a TPP like its predecessor.

Little else is known about the supernatural anomaly threat the game will bring. However, players will be able to find out soon, with the closed alpha scheduled for December exclusively on Steam. There will be two playtests, with one beginning December 12–14 and the last playtest coming on December 19–21. Players can sign up on their Steam store page. The playtest is restricted to NA, Europe, and Asia.

Those who are lucky enough to join the alpha test are free to stream, capture, and share gameplay content and thoughts. Those who weren’t lucky enough to get in for the playtest will have an opportunity to earn a key via Twitch Drops during the event. The studio has mentioned that feedback is encouraged and will help refine the gameplay systems and performance of future sessions.
