Square Enix Mass Layoffs 2025: 100+ US/UK Jobs Cut in Japan Pivot
Square Enix is Set to Make Another Mass Layoff
Today, Square Enix has begun to consolidate its publishing organization to focus their development work in Japan, as first spotted by IGN’s Rebekah Valentine.
Employees from Square Enix US and UK offices have begun to post publicly that the company has started another round of layoffs, with US employees being dismissed by the end of the week. The full number is currently uncertain. However, there appears to be over 100 UK employees of the company at risk. Square Enix is currently seeking any potential options to help save these jobs. However, these cuts will impact those working in marketing, publishing, business planning, QA, IT, and more, it's been determined.
It’s important to note that those who have not been affected by the layoffs will be required to work in the office more and less from home.
This follows the news of Square Enix wanting to have 70% of their QA and debugging to be handled by AI by the end of 2027. However, it’s unclear whether the layoffs would come from this news. One can only expect this to be part of the case.
