Star Wars Eclipse "Years Off" From Completion as Quantic Dream's Spellcaster Chronicles Struggles With Low Players & Funding

Star Wars Eclipse is reportedly still “years off from completion” and may not cross the finish line if the studio’s latest game, Spellcaster Chronicles, can’t find the funding it needs to keep production going.

In 2021, Quantic Dream revealed Star Wars Eclipse, the highly anticipated action-adventure game where your choices actually matter and change the outcome. The game is currently in troubled waters. A report from Insider Gaming, which claims to have spoken with sources familiar with the project, says production is “very slow going” and the game is still “years off from completion.”

To make matters worse, the team is relying on its free-to-play, team-based 3v3 action-strategy game, Spellcaster Chronicles, to help fund development. But the game doesn’t appear to be retaining its player base. With mixed reviews and a peak of only 888 concurrent players, it looks like a slow death for Spellcaster Chronicles - and a worrisome sign for Eclipse’s future.

Star Wars Eclipse reportedly has “a good portion of the game” complete; however, the remaining work has proved more challenging for the team, and it has made “very little progress for months.” If Quantic Dream can’t find the magic to keep Spellcaster Chronicles going, parent company NetEase may rethink its strategy for the studio’s next game.
