Xbox CEO Asha Sharma Eyes Cheaper Game Pass Tiers for “Return of Xbox”
The phrase “Return of Xbox” comes from the new Xbox and chief executive officer of Microsoft Gaming, Asha Sharma. The previous focus, “Everything is an Xbox,” is no longer the priority, as former Xbox boss Phil Spencer and former Xbox President Sarah Bond have left the company. So, what does “Return of Xbox” mean for Sharma?
Pricing appears to be where Sharma plans to begin in the new role, aiming to make future consoles and products like Game Pass more enticing to a broader range of customers. Fans could see another revamp in Game Pass pricing, as Sharma looks to offer lower-priced tiers.
According to The Information (as spotted by Eddie Makuch at Gamespot), prices for Game Pass rose last year, pushing many away from higher-tier models such as Game Pass Ultimate, which saw a 50% increase. Sharma appears ready to address this and could potentially lower prices to encourage more fans to return to the service.

While a lower-priced Game Pass structure is possible, another option recently seen in streaming services is offering a lower price with ads. Many services, like Netflix and Paramount, now provide a lower-tier entry, though ads are shown before and during the show or movie. This could become a possible direction for lower-tier Game Pass subscribers.
