Nintendo Cuts Switch 2 Production by 30% After Weak US Sales

Nintendo Cuts Switch 2 Production by 30% After Weak US Sales

According to a new report from Bloomberg, Nintendo is set to lower production plans for the Switch 2 this quarter by 30% following weak sales in the US. This will lower the number of units from 6 million to 4 million, following what a source told Bloomberg was slower-than-expected Switch 2 sales during the holiday season.

While Nintendo has yet to comment on the matter, Bloomberg is claiming that a source "familiar with the matter” is the one providing the information.

The source went on to say that while games like Pokémon Pokopia have been a new system seller for the Switch 2, Nintendo is erring on the side of caution, waiting to see if the game and other upcoming titles have staying power, and also continue to bring in new customers.

Despite the planned cuts, Nintendo should still be able to reach the predicted sale of 20 million Switch 2 units in the current fiscal year. Currently, the Switch 2 is 45% ahead of the original Switch in the US on a life-to-date install base.

Though past rumors suggested the semiconductor crisis had Nintendo considering a price adjustment to the Switch 2, the source told Bloomberg that the costs of parts had nothing to do with Nintendo’s plan to cut back production for the quarter.

Have you purchased a Switch 2 yet? Do you think Nintendo will join Sony and Microsoft with price hikes instead of cuts on their system moving forward? Let us know in the comments and make sure to join the GamerzTheory Discord.
