Ubisoft Ends Game Development at Red Storm Entertainment, Lays Off 105
Ubisoft is ending game development at Red Storm Entertainment, developers of several Tom Clancy titles, resulting in 105 job losses. The North Carolina studio, which was founded in 1996 by Tom Clancy, will continue operations in the form of global IT and Snowdrop support, but all game developers have been made redundant.
Red Storm Entertainment was acquired by Ubisoft in 200, and developed several Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six sequels. However, in recent years it has been focused on VR titles such as Werewolves Within (2016), Star Trek: Bridge Crew (2017), and Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR (2023).

The studio's most recent project, The Division Heartland, a free-to-play game, was cancelled in 2024 following public testing. The decision to end game development at Red Storm comes as part of an ongoing global cost-saving plan, which resulted in six game cancellations, seven delays, and the closure of two other studios.
Ubisoft announced earlier this year that it is aiming to reduce its fixed costs by an additional €200 million over the next two years.
Where do you stand on Ubisoft? The company seems to have been stuck in a one step forward two step back motion for years. Let us know in the comments and in our GamerzTheory Discord.
