Take-Two CEO On Generative AI: No One Added Value With a PowerPoint Presentation
With GTA 6 finally set to arrive this year, the growing AI in gaming debate will undoubtedly focus on one of the biggest gaming releases in history, and how much if any gen-AI makes its way into the final product. Stauss Zelnick the Take-Two CEO has been pretty down on AI in recent months, stating that ‘you wouldn’t end up with anything very good’ when asked about games made with AI.
In a recent interview with Christopher Dring from The Game Business, it does not seem that Zelnick has changed his tune about AI at all.
"I think the bare case for big entertainment companies is somehow that AI tools will mean everyone can create hits, but that doesn't stand to reason. It all depends on your expectations... No one ever added value with a PowerPoint presentation. Nonetheless, lots of them are made all the time... But no one's saying: 'that’s great. Chris, we're going to give you a big promotion because of the amazing PowerPoint you did for the internal committee'. That's not what we get paid for."

Zelnick points out that even though tools have been around for quite some time to empower people to create more games, the big hits are still usually coming from “large entertainment companies” and that indies are generally “pretty robust”.
"Every entertainment business that was supposed to be destroyed by new technology hasn't been. When I was a little kid, calculators came along and parents were all up in arms that now schools would not teach kids math because they had access to calculators. Well, people are learning math today, even though there are calculators."
It will be interesting to see if any AI issues arise in GTA 6 when the game launches or if Zelnick will stick to his word about the inability for AI to be creative.
What are your thoughts on what AI can do in the gaming sphere? Does it have some merit or will it only increase the amount of slop games that pop up? Let us know in the comments down below and come join us in the GamerzTheory Discord.
