Fallout Game at Xbox Studio Cancelled, Bethesda Rather Keep New Entries In-House
According to Jeff Gerstmann, a Fallout game that was in development at an Xbox-owned studio will not be released, believing that it already has been cancelled. Speaking on “The Jeff Gerstmann Show”, episode 196, he claimed that Bethesda and Todd Howard would rather staff up than hand Elder Scrolls or Fallout to another studio.
No, I think Todd Howard and the team probably have a pretty firm grasp of what they want to do with those specific franchises, and instead of assigning that stuff to another team, it would be more likely for them to staff up at Bethesda Game Studios to make sure that they have what they need to get those games done. There was a Fallout thing in development at another Microsoft-owned studio that I think is no longer going to see the light of day. But yeah, they will probably not do the remakes. I think those have been outsourced to others, like the Fallout 3 thing, which I think has been outsourced to an external studio. But, you know, new games will probably come from that brain trust, and I think that they probably will continue to have a pretty firm grasp on that.

Of course, this line of thinking only applies to new entries in the series, as we have seen remakes and remasters are up for grabs. With Virtuos handling The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, and a Fallout: New Vegas remake being teased by Iron Galaxy. We will also most likely see the same happen for the long-rumored Fallout 3 remake.
New installments are seemingly always kept in the house, aside from Fallout: New Vegas, so those hoping for The Elder Scrolls VI and the next Fallout will most likely be stuck waiting for Bethesda and Howard for several more years.
When do you think we see the next chapters of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises? Is 2030 too early of a possibility? Let us know in the comments and then come hang out in the GamerzTheory Discord with us.
